Forgive and Regret (from high school)

By Dominic Jones

Tear-streaked cheeks and sorrowful eyes

I want you to know you’ve made me realize

The mistake I’ve made once again

And how I’ve paid for it

I moved too fast and it didn’t last

Our future together is falling apart

And I’m writing this straight from my heart

I guess I’m just going through a trend

And I’m asking you if you’ll still be my friend

I hope we learn from my mistakes

Because when I think of you, my whole body aches

I guess I’m not ready to take it slow right now

But I don’t want you just tossed aside

Like slush in the way of a snowplow

I still care for you and wish you the best

I think I should grow up and fly from the nest

I guess maybe it’s in our best interest to say good-bye

But something tells me I’ll start to cry

As I end this poem with a solemn farewell

Let your heart ring out like a church tower bell
