Goodbye For Awhile (from high school)

By Dominic Jones

This poem is from 1998 or 1999. I have been writing since 1998. I used to put copyright years on my poetry way back when just like I did a poor man's copyright to myself awhile ago, and filed that unopened Manila envelope away.

She sees the sadness in my eyes

As we regrettingly say our goodbyes

 A loving embrace

 Accompanied by a distraught face

 How could we have known

That it would get us down to the bone

 We didn't see it coming

And now I see the equation we`re summing

We found out the hard way

Now we try to repair it with the words we say

It's OK, I wonder too if it'll ever work out anyway

But it's too late, the damage has been done

Eventually we`ll realize that nobody has won

 It`s hard to believe

That we`re stuck in the web we weave

Will you be there-for better and for worse?

Please don`t cuss and please don`t cry

We'll find our peace of mind quite soon

I'll find myself before I swoon

If another girl soon comes my way

We'll meet again some other time, some other day

Far, far away in some other place
