What do you see

When you look at me

Do you see a failure

Or do you see ambition

Do you see the hurt

And the guilt

The shame and the sorrow

Do you see a soul

You wish you could borrow

Do you see potential

Or do you see a shell

A simple existence who has secrets

He won’t ever tell

I look at the mirror

And I see meI see a flicker of meaning

A heart with terrible memories teeming

I look through it

And I see a future

A past that can be mended

With sobriety sutures

A reason for living

The reason to go on

I see you behind me

Always there supporting me

To be the person

I always wanted to be

To be the me that doesn’t need

An escape from reality
